Election for Student Rep

Today were the elections for student rep. Everyone would have their own speeches and tell the reasons why people should vote for them. The speeches happened at lunch time where people who wanted to hear the speeches would go to the auditorium. There were four people running. Two people that I thought was for sure to win was Kevin Dhir and Cynthia Ho. Mostly because they were friends but also because their speeches stood out. I voted for Kevin, Cynthia, and Robin. We also got our go-cards today and I finally found out how my picture turned out. It wasn't what I expected at all. My eyes were too wide and it looked as if I were cross-eyed. I planned on retakes so I don't look like a goof in the yearbook. All my friends laughed when they saw my picture and made me greatly embarrassed. I swore never to let anyone see my picture on my go-card.

Rice Experiment

Today in Science, Mrs. Smedley gave us the first experiment of the year. The experiment was to see if rice would expand enough to choke a bird if the rice was swallowed by a bird. We had to fill a container with rice and measure the weight. Then we would add warm water and wait for five minutes. Then we would pour the water out and measure the rice again making sure all the rice we put was still there. We found out that it gained 5 grams but it wasn't enough to choke a bird. We wrote down the conclusion. We also tested out bird seeds and brown rice. It all gained about 5 grams. This experiment was pretty fun and I hope we do more in the future.

Trip to New York

A few days ago, my strings teacher, Mr.Hill gave us a field trip form where we would perform in New York. We would be staying there for 5 days. We would also be going to places like The Statue Liberty and the location of the 9/11 attacks. I was really excited for this trip but the problem was that my parents might not let me go. The were ten spots for parent chaperones but they're too busy. They can't afford to skip work because they have big tests and projects coming up. I really hope they let me. The cost for the field trip is a little expensive but I guess it was worth it. It was for the a seat in the airplane, room in a hotel, and breakfast everyday. The cost was about $1,600. If you were my parents what would you do?

A Present

Today was Professional Day and the whole day was for our taking. We decided to go to Richmond and shop. My parents took today off so we could spend our day together as a family. I told my parents a long time ago when I ten or eleven that I wanted a phone and everytime their answer would be a no. I begged them for years and today they finally think I have enough responsibility to have one. I was so excited! What kind of phone am I going to buy? I was thinking of a Blackberry or an iPhone 4G. We went store to store asking about the student plans and what phone they suggested. At last I decided that I was going for Rogers and my choice for a phone would be an iPhone. The problem was that they were all sold out. Some places didn't even have waiting lists. It was first come first serve. I know you're thinking right now that I should go to Apple but the prices there were too expensive. It was 700 dollars for a 32GB while it was 300 dollars elsewhere. Finally I got to Lansdowne Centre where I found a store finally with iPhones in stock! The catch was that it was for Telus. My parents knew I was really eager to get it right away so they were nice enough to buy it right away. I said thank you and gave them both a hug and a kiss. I'm really lucky to have such great parents.

Sunday

Sunday's here! Isn't Sunday the best day of the week? The sunny weather, no school, and best of all NO TUTOR! Every Sunday I go somewhere special like Kamloops for apple picking. Today I went to Steveson Park for biking. I had loads of fun and even held a barbecue there. I know today's weather wasn't perfect for a barbecue but there was no other day. Summer's ended and it's getting colder and colder. I invited all my friends from elementary and had a blast. We biked and flew kites. The parents had fun too. It was the perfect day to spend a Sunday. Sometimes I wish I would never grow up and stay with my friends in elementary forever.

Start of Chinese School

Now that school started, Chinese school season is back. I dislike Chinese because there's always tests every week. Last year we had a great teacher who was funny and entertaining. She made Chinese less of a pain but this year it was totally different. This year we had a serious teacher who did not laugh at anything. When I was with the teacher last year, she made us feel warm and safe but when I was with the teacher this year, it felt cold. People from last year were always talking but now, no one dares to speak. This teacher wasn't great but he wasn't bad either. He gave us a reasonable amount of homework and the reasonable amount of tests. He was considered as an average teacher in our Chinese school.

A Huge Commotion

Today in Applied Skills we had to draw a robot with different shapes. Another teacher was teaching for Mr. Olsen and he was nice enough to let us talk a little. The commotion about who was who on Mr. Sale's website was still going on and today seemed to be the worst. Everyone was asking everyone who they were. It was kind of confusing. The results were surprising. I assumed that the people who answered the most questions were the smartest in our class but it turned differently. That was only for some people. Others were exactly what I thought they'd be. Sometimes things aren't always what they seem.

The Start of Student Trivia

Today in Socials we headed to the computer lab where we would start our student trivia and discuss topics on Mr. Sale's website. When I first got on I headed to Mr. Sale's weekly trivia. It was a little easier then I expected but then when I got to student trivia, it got extreme. The people in the class answered it really quick and there was a huge commotion about who was who since we had weird usernames. Some computers were slow so it was hard to type and sometimes the website won't work. The website won't update itself so you have to keep refreshing the page in order to keep up with what's happening. Somtimes when I refresh once, a few questions have already gone by so it's kind of frustrating. The person that answered most of the questions has the username of Flying Pigs. I got a few answers correct and made some questions but the quickness of how Flying Pigs answer the questions is just insane! I'm jealous!!!

A Great Morning

This morning was the best morning I had in years. Want to know why? It was because today school started at 10:17 a.m. I could finally get my much needed sleep and relax for once. I felt full of energy when I woke up. If only it was today that I did my Langara run for P.E. I was still a little bit unhappy about my sprained ankle but at least it got a little bit better from the rest. It would still hurt if I ran or walk up the stairs. I'd be really happy if I had another day like this so I could rest my ankle and have it get better soon. I wish school started at 10:17 a.m. everyday. Then I'd have no chances of being late.

A Twisted Ankle

A few days ago I sprained my ankle but I didn't worry too much until now. Today for P.E. we had to run Langara. My ankle was hurting a lot but I didn't let it bother me. When I started the run I tried to jog but it hurts if I do. It was a hard choice. Either you get a good mark in P.E. or you help your sprained ankle. What would you do? The Langara course was all rocky and uneven so it increased the pressure on my ankle. I kept pushing myself but it didn't help. I knew it wasn't going to end well. At the end I finished with the time of twenty-five minutes and twenty-five seconds. I was a little disappointed but I was proud too. I was proud that I did the course with a sprained ankle and that's what mattered the most.

Violin

Every Monday after school, I always have violin lessons. It makes my life a little bit harder and makes my hatred for Mondays stronger but it usually turns out well except today. My violin string snapped while I was playing and I screamed. My violin was one of my most precious items and if it broke, it'd be like my baby dying. The incident today wasn't really bad because it was just one of the strings. If it was that the whole violin broke in half, I'd be crying for three and a half months and I won't come to school for a while. Maybe I exaggerated a little and if I don't come to school my parents would kill me so I guess I'd just be in a bad mood for a few days. That's not too bad. =D
